The theme for 2021-22 Rotary Year
Our Speaker: Gainesville Fire Chief Joseph Dixon
Our speaker this week is Gainesville Fire Rescue Chief Joseph Dixon. Dixon previously served as fire chief of Goldsbro, North Carolina.  Chief Dixon is a self-proclaimed "out of the box thinker" and will talk to our club about his vision for GFR and how his team is handling the challenges of COVID-19.
Note: The previous version of this newsletter indicated that Shands CEO Ed Jimenez was our speaker. That announcement was a bit premature as Mr. Jimenez will be our speaker on August 26. Your interim newsletter error regrets the error and is starting to wonder if "Pregnancy Brain" is a real thing.

Brian Jose Introduces The Performing Arts Season!

Our meeting last week was hopping with an interactive presentation from Performings Arts Program Director Brian Jose. We learned all about the 2021-2022 season and the exciting talent that will be coming to Gainesville.
Register Now To Attend Rotary Leadership Institute

We Need Your Help With Our Weekly Newsletter

We need a few volunteers to help with the production of this newsletter while Dorothy and Katie are on leave. The time commitment is minimal, about 30 - 45 minutes a week once you get the hang of things. Katie will provide a virtual training via Zoom for anyone who is interested in learning more. Assistance is needed starting in early August. If we are unable to find a few Rotarians willing to assist, we may have to temporarily suspend the newsletter. Please reach out to President Darlene Morgan if you are able to help.
A Great Turnout at Our Rotary Baby Shower
Dear Rotarians,
I want to thank Bobbie Robinson for hosting a wonderful baby shower last week. It was a lovely event with a great turnout. I particularly want to acknowledge Chuck and Larry along with Bobbie's husband, Randy, who were attending their very first Baby Shower - they fit right in like old pros.
I am so fortunate to have connected with this wonderful group through Rotary and thank you all for your generosity and support. I am scheduled to deliver in mid-August (tentatively August 17th) and will be taking a leave of absence while on maternity leave. I will try to stop by from time to time as I am able and hope you all will keep in touch.

Your Rotary Minute: Rotary License Plate Now Available

The new Florida Rotary License Plate is available thanks to the perseverance and dedication of a team of multiple Rotary Leaders from every District in the state of Florida. Thanks to the hard work of District Governor Elect Jeff Michelman and other Rotarians across the State of Florida, we have pre-sold several hundred plates, but in order to go into production, we will need pre-sell 3,000 plates.

I encourage anyone that may be contemplating getting a plate to go ahead pre-order now.  The cost is minimal at $35 and it only takes a couple of minutes to do so.

Service Above Self,
District Governor 2021-2022
