The theme for 2021-22 Rotary Year
Dr. Andy Narango will speak to us this week about the mysterious subject of "Digital Finance." Maybe he'll talk about cryptocurrency.  Where does it come from?  How do you spend it?  After Thursday, we'll all be experts and can run out and fill our digital pockets with some small change.
Dr. Andy Naranjo is the John B. Hall Professor of Finance and Chairman of the Eugene F. Brigham Finance, Insurance & Real Estate Department in the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida. Andy’s research encompasses empirical asset pricing, corporate finance, international finance, and FinTech, with a focus on the behavior and valuation of assets and firms, as well as the linkages and information flows across markets.  He's advised about 40 graduate students in the last three years. During his talk, be on the lookout for these words:  crypto businesses; Etherum; digital tokens; stablecoins; crypto investors; Bitcoin; Miamicoin; illegal in China, and the like.  It's going to be fun!
Sunrise Rotarians:  It's Party Time!
Our outstanding social chairperson, Bobbie Robinson, has done it again.  Get up early this Thursday to come to Rotary, and then join everyone again later that day at The Key's Grill and Piano Bar located at Celebration Pointe starting at 6:00PM.  The deadline to sign up is passed, but maybe Bobbie can squeeze you in if you let her know right away.  Bring a potential new member!
Sunriser Will Be Providing Statewide Leadership for Florida Realtors.  Congratulations, Dave!
Sunrise member Dave Ferro has been announced as the 2022 Commercial Alliance Chairperson for Florida Realtors. This is the committee that steers commercial real estate initiatives and advises Florida Realtors Leadership on commercial issues. The Florida Realtors Association currently has in excess of 200,000 members.
Another Traveling Sunriser Reports In!
Sunrise member Rupa Lloyd was on a recent trip to Boston and checked in on Rotary in that historic city.  Unfortunately, she could not stay for their mid-week meeting.  I don't know whether Rupa was working or playing, but I'll bet it was a great trip.
Service Above Self:  A Reminder.  For three weeks, we'll get a reminder about why we are in Rotary:  Week 2 of 3--The Four-Way Test.
Of the things we think, say, or do:
1.  Is it the truth?
2.  Is it fair to all concerned?
3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
We are so close! Just two cases this year, one in Afghanistan and one in Pakistan so far.  Join us for World Polio Day as global health experts and partners share our progress on the road to polio eradication. I hope that all of our clubs are doing something to celebrate the progress we’ve made and raise awareness and funding so that we can finish the job.
Champions of Growth!  Four District 6970 Clubs have Increased Membership by 9-17% in the Last Three Months
The Interlachen/Lakes, New Smyrna Beach, Fleming Island and Northeast Florida Clubs have increased their membership by 13 total members.  They are small clubs, but are growing. Overall, District 6970 has 56 new members in the last three months.
For Sunrise Rotary that means two things.  One, look around us at our in-person meetings and note that we have members not attending that were attending prior to COVID and during our Zoom meetings.  Give them a call or send an email to check on them.  Maybe they are not attending because they are being cautious about COVID.  That's okay.  But, maybe they just a little nudge to start attending again.   Two, if you know one, bring one.  Someone you know just needs to be asked to join Rotary.  Invite them to attend one of our meetings and see what happens!
