This Week's News
Meet the UF professor in 2020's most Oscar-nominated film!
Movie buffs alert! Join us this week as we welcome Monika Gossman, an assistant professor in the UF College of the Arts, who is now starring in the Oscar-winning film Mank. The film is the story of Hollywood screenwriting legend Herman Mankiewicz as he writes the script for the movie Citizen Kane. Mankiewicz won an Oscar for his efforts.
Monika was born and raised bilingually (German and Russian) in Kazakhstan, a region of the former Soviet Union, not far from the Chinese border. She has trained professionally as a singer, dancer and musical performer, and graduated from the famous Moscow Art Theater School of Stanislavsky. Monika has performed worldwide, and amassed a number of international film credits to her resume, but she's broken through onto the Hollywood scene with her recent turn as Fraeulein Frieda in Mank.
Gator students of theater and performance are indeed fortunate to have such a talented instructor! In 2019 she became an assistant professor for somatics in theater, the field within bodywork and movement studies that emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. Her career as a teacher, actor, director and playwright keeps her plenty busy but she's making time to be with us (virtually, of course) this Thursday, so join us and meet this talented young actress.
If you have a chance, you can watch Mank before our meeting on the streaming service Netflix.

We'll be starting promptly at 7:15 am, but feel free to log on earlier if you wish to visit with fellow members.

Congratulations, Phil Kabler, on the award presented to the Eighth Judicial Circuit
Congratulations to the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, whose president is our own Phil Kabler!
The Florida Bar’s Standing Committee on Professionalism awarded the 2021 Group Professionalism Award to the EJCBA for its Annual Professionalism Seminar. This award will be presented during the 2021 Florida Bar Convention as part of the Professionalism Awards Celebration.
The Annual Professionalism Seminar has been a long-standing continuing legal education and professionalism program of the EJCBA, and while local in nature, it draws state and national keynote speakers and panelists.
Don't wait to be asked! Sign up now for a month as speaker chair for Rotary Year 2021-22

I’d like to put in a plug for speaker coordinators for Rotary Year 2021-22, which starts on July 1, 2021. Josh will be traveling quite a bit this year, so I was asked to come alongside and assist in the recruiting effort. Please email me, Bryan, and sign up for one of the upcoming 12 months. Thanks!

Please respond to the call for committee chairs for Rotary year 2021-22
Sunrise Rotary president-elect Darleen Morgan is now asking for members to step forward and chair one of the club's committees.
Because of the pandemic, our committees have not really been able to get very engaged, so this is the time for individuals to step up and help out. Darleen has several openings. At last count, these are some of the traditional club committees, but all is negotiable! Please contact Darleen, as soon as you can. Thanks!
