The work of Rotary - Service Above Self - demands generous and hardworking men and women of good character. No one is eligible to become a Rotarian unless, in his or her business or professional life, he or she endeavors to practice the principles of goodwill and service.

If you are interested in becoming a member of Sunrise Rotary of Gainesville, we invite you to look through our website and learn about the expectations and benefits of Rotary membership.

You are also invited to explore the District 6970 website, and the Rotary International website for the larger Rotary context.

And of course, we invite you to meet with us at our club meetings.

Benefits of Rotary Membership

Sunrise Rotary is a service club that lets you make a difference locally, nationally and internationally as part of the world’s largest family of givers. As a Sunrise Rotarian, you will have many opportunities to assist many local causes that will touch the lives of people right here in our community. Some you may never meet; many you will.

You will have the opportunity to network with a cross section of leaders of other businesses and professions here in Alachua County who help each other, and collectively help others, while promoting lasting friendships.

Your professional and personal knowledge will also be enriched by expert speakers at weekly luncheons. These speakers address a wide range of issues in our communities, nation, and world.

Responsibilities of Membership

Membership in Rotary is an honor and privilege, and every privilege has its corresponding obligations. One of the special obligations of membership is regular attendance at the weekly meetings; it is the basic method of fulfilling the principle of fellowship as well as a way of representing your vocation. Every member is also expected to perform his or her share of club and community service, and the committees of the club will afford you opportunities to serve.

Attendance Requirements and Options for Meeting Make-ups

All Rotary clubs must abide by the 50 percent attendance rule set forth in article 12, section 4, of the Standard Rotary Club Constitution. Sunrise Rotary accepts this rule, which means that as a member of our club, you are responsible for attending at least 50 percent of all club meetings in a six-month period.

If you’re unable to attend a meeting, you can make up that meeting by attending a meeting of another Rotary club. For instance, if you’re on a business trip, you might attend a Rotary club meeting in another city. You can also make up a meeting by attending an e-club meeting online, or a monthly board meeting. Use the club locator at www.rotary.org to find meeting locations and times

Financial obligations

There is a one-time admission fee of $75. Annual dues are $130 (District and International). paid $32.50 quarterly. There are no local dues. Members also pay $168 quarterly for 12 meeting meals, regardless of whether they attend.
